Introducing JTC

Senior Staff

Our outstanding senior management team consists of Program Directors who have been leading camp divisions for many years. With our camper proven format of individual program sessions, we know that they will raise the bar another notch, and take the programming, leadership, supervision and camp ruach (spirit) to another level.

Mrs. Arona Hes grew up in Silver Spring and started her affiliation as a camper at Camp Shalom. She molds her staff into a dynamic team to bring out their best. Mrs. Hes will not only plan and oversee all activities, she will also personally get involved with the campers to maximize participation and infuse the whole camp with her positive energy. Mrs. Hes works as an educator during the year at the Yeshiva of Greater Washington, teaching a combination of secular and Judaic subjects. Her camp counselors generally consist of former and current students who are hand selected to lead the individual bunks. She will be directing the girls all-around Rena Program (Session I) and the specialty Safed Art Studio (Session II). Please see the program section for detailed descriptions of each program.

Rabbi Shmuel Feldman started his Camp Shalom career as a counselor, moved up to head counselor, and now directs the specialty Gibor Sports Clinic (Session I) which had a terrific season last year. Rabbi Feldman has great experience both in program supervision and sports education. He is a rebbe at the Torah School of Greater Washington, has a BA in Human Services, and lettered in four different sports in high school. His team will utilize their experience in sports and excellent middos (character) to inject the right balance between intensity and sportsmanship for a truly wonderful physical skills and mental outlook learning experience

Rabbi Chaim Biberfeld is a highly experienced Program Director. As a long time head counselor for multiple divisions in prior years, he will now focus his efforts to infuse the all-around boys Reyim Program (Session II) with creative ideas and exciting new programming. This is the same way he teaches and excels as a rebbe at the Torah School of Greater Washington. Rabbi Biberfeld’s hands-on style gets him directly involved with the counselors and the campers. His team will use their energy and leadership to successfully meet the diverse needs of their camp program.
